Total Defence Day 2026

Total Defence Day is commemorated on 15 February. The theme for Total Defence this year is Together We Keep Singapore Strong. Total Defence Day reminds us that resilience and the ability to be prepared for and overcome crisis and challenges are a key part of who we are as Singaporeans.

As part of the commemoration of Total Defence Day at SMSP, a personnel from the Singapore Civil Defence Force shared with the school what to do during a fire emergency to ensure safe and swift evacuation. Students were introduced to the Home Fire Safety Checker, a valuable tool for identifying potential fire safety infringements and hazards within their homes. Students learnt that everyone can play an active part in keeping Singapore safe and secure. Students also had the opportunity to experience the simulation of an electricity disruption during lessons. Through the school-wide experience, classroom discussion and student reflection, students appreciate the need to be prepared for disruption. They also learnt how to respond and help one another calmly and responsibly in circumstances of disruption.

During recess, students had the chance to learn about fire safety, being prepared for emergencies and safe and secure travelling experiences on our public transport system. They participated in interactive activities such as hands-on learning, colouring and a quiz at the activity booths set up by teachers and personnel from the Land Transport Authority. Students learnt that everyone in Singapore can work together and play our part in Total Defence to keep Singapore strong.
